What Door Alarm Means
JennAir's Door Alarm page describes the Door Ajar Alarm: it sounds when a refrigerator door or the freezer drawer is left open for two to five minutes depending on the model, provided cooling is switched on, and it repeats every two minutes until everything is closed.
Common Causes of Door Alarm
- A door or drawer genuinely left ajar
- Food packaging, a bin or a shelf stopping a door from closing fully
- A refrigerator sitting out of level so the door does not make contact with its switch
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close all the doors and the freezer drawer, and check nothing inside is holding one of them open - a bin pushed out of place or a tall bottle in the door shelf is the usual culprit. JennAir also notes you can mute the tone by touching any control panel button while you keep the door open for cleaning.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An alarm that keeps sounding with the doors visibly shut points at the door switch or at leveling, and JennAir's own page raises both - neither is a matter of pressing something harder.
- Shimming a built-in refrigerator to correct leveling has to keep the unit square in its aperture, or the doors stop aligning with the cabinetry they are meant to sit flush with.
- Ignoring a genuine door-ajar condition for long enough lets warm moist air in, and the frost that follows becomes its own separate problem.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
