JennAir Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Making Ice: What to Check

When ice production stops but everything else in the refrigerator seems fine, the cause almost always sits inside this one self-contained subsystem.

Because the ice maker runs on its own small water valve, fill tube, and mold assembly, it can quit entirely while the rest of the refrigerator keeps cooling normally — which is exactly why this particular fault feels so isolated compared to most refrigerator complaints.

Step 1: Confirm the Arm or Switch Is On

Most ice makers have a physical on/off arm or a control-panel toggle that’s easy to bump accidentally, especially when loading a full bin or rearranging the freezer.

Step 2: Check the Water Supply Line

Pull the refrigerator out enough to inspect the thin line feeding it from the wall, looking for a sharp bend from the last time it was moved, and confirm the shutoff valve behind it is turned fully open rather than partway.

Step 3: Look for Frost Blocking the Fill Tube

A freezer running slightly too cold, or a door that’s been left ajar briefly, can cause frost to build up inside the narrow fill tube feeding the ice maker, blocking water flow well before you’d notice anything else wrong.

Step 4: Rule Out the Filter

An old or clogged water filter can restrict flow enough to stall ice production even though the dispenser still works at a trickle.
