What F6 Means

JennAir's F6 page uses its standard over-the-range phrasing: the oven could not execute the function, and there may be a problem with the relay control board or the associated wiring. The relay board is the one that switches power to the microwave's major loads.

Common Causes of F6

  • A relay control board that has failed
  • A loose or burnt terminal on the relay board
  • Board damage from an earlier supply event

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Power the unit down at the breaker for a minute and restore it, then watch for a minute before running anything - a relay board problem that is real returns without being asked.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The relay board switches power to the microwave's high-voltage section, so treating it casually means treating the most dangerous circuit in the appliance casually.
  • Relay boards retain charge briefly after disconnection, and an over-the-range unit gives you no comfortable working position while you wait for that.
  • Boards are model-specific and often revision-specific, so one ordered without checking the serial plate is usually the wrong one.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F6 FAQ

JennAir names a different board on each - the relay control board for F6 and the appliance control board for F6E0 - so quote the code exactly.

Do not rely on it. If the board that switches loads is faulting, the fan is one of the loads in question.
