A turntable that’s stopped rotating doesn’t stop a microwave from running, but it does mean your food will heat unevenly from that point forward, so it’s worth chasing down quickly.
Step 1: Check the Support Ring’s Position
The small wheeled ring that sits beneath the glass tray needs to be seated correctly and facing the right direction to engage with the drive hub. It’s easy to set the tray back in slightly askew after cleaning.
Step 2: Look for Debris Under the Tray
A dropped piece of food or a splash of sauce that’s dried beneath the tray can jam the support ring’s wheels, stalling rotation even though the drive motor is working fine.
Step 3: Confirm the Drive Coupler Is Intact
A small plastic coupler connects the drive motor to the turntable ring, and it’s specifically designed to be a low-cost part that wears out before the motor itself does. A worn or cracked coupler is the most common actual cause of a stalled turntable.
Step 4: When It’s the Motor
If the coupler is intact and the tray still won’t turn, the small turntable motor itself has likely failed and needs replacement.
