Microwave maintenance doesn’t require much time, but a few consistent habits noticeably extend the life of the door mechanism, turntable motor, and ventilation grille, especially on a built-in or over-the-range JennAir unit that runs daily.
Keep the Door Seal Area Clean
Food splatter that dries along the door’s edge or latch area can prevent the door from closing fully, and a microwave won’t start at all if it doesn’t detect a secure close. A damp wipe after any splatter keeps this from becoming a recurring annoyance.
Wash the Turntable and Support Ring
The turntable and the small roller ring underneath it collect crumbs and grease that can eventually cause the plate to spin unevenly or stick. Both typically lift out for a normal dish-soap wash.
Don’t Neglect the Vent Grille
On over-the-range models, the vent grille beneath the unit also filters cooking exhaust from the range below. A greasy, clogged grille restricts airflow for both appliances and should be washed or replaced on the same rough schedule as a range hood filter.
