JennAir's page for F1E4 gives the problem as the oven being unable to carry out the function asked of it, and puts that down to the Appliance Control Board or the wiring attached to it. That is a wider control problem than F1E1, which names the relay board specifically.

- The control board manages the microwave's core functions, so reseating it incorrectly can disable a safety feature without any warning.
- In a microwave the control board shares its housing with the high-voltage capacitor, and pulling the plug does nothing at all to what that part is storing.
- F1E1 and F1E4 can look similar from the outside but point to different boards, so guessing which one to replace is a common, costly mistake.
- Two microwaves that look identical on a showroom shelf can take different control boards, so the part is chosen from the rating plate rather than the model name.
- The unit hangs on a wall plate and two bolts through the cabinet floor above, and taking the weight off those bolts single-handed is how they get bent and stop lining up again.
