What E23 Means
JennAir's E23 page is one of the more specific in the set: the oven did not reach pre-heat temperature within thirty minutes, and there may be a problem with the heater, the appliance control board, or the associated wiring. On a convection-capable over-the-range unit, the heater is the baking element.
Common Causes of E23
- A convection heating element that has gone open circuit
- An appliance control board no longer switching the element correctly
- A wiring or connector problem in the element circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Reset at the breaker for a minute and note whether the microwave function still works normally, because that tells the technician the problem is confined to the heating side before they arrive.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An element that has partly failed can still warm slightly, which makes it look alive while never reaching temperature, and only measurement settles that.
- Element terminals carry substantial current and can stay hot well after the display goes dark.
- The element sits behind cavity panelling that has to come out, and those fixings seize with repeated heat cycling.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
