What E:04 Means
The service table for JennAir's flush-mount dishwasher shows E:04 as an internal problem of the power module, with the appliance operating without heater and the internal check reporting either a ground fault at the zeolite heater or a defective safety relay heater. The same table adds that because of how they were manufactured, new appliances up to a certain production date may have stored E:04 once during their first eight wash cycles, and that this is not an appliance problem.
Common Causes of E:04
- A ground fault at the zeolite drying heater
- A defective safety relay for the heater on the power module
- A single stored occurrence during the first eight cycles on an early-production machine, which the table treats as normal
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the machine is nearly new and the code appeared once in its first few washes, the table itself says that particular case is not an error. Otherwise, reset power for a minute and note whether dishes are coming out cold, because operating without heater is the sign the table pairs with this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A ground fault means current is finding a path it should not, and that is a condition to have measured rather than reasoned about.
- The zeolite drying system is specific to this flush-mount platform, so a technician unfamiliar with it can misread the problem entirely.
- The heater and its relay are both mains-voltage parts inside a wet appliance, which is the combination that most rewards leaving it alone.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
