What FAE4 or F10E4 Means
JennAir publishes this code in two forms, FAE4 and F10E4, on one page, and names a diverter valve error as the potential cause. The diverter is what sends wash water to the upper or lower spray arm, so a problem here shows up as one rack being cleaned and the other not.
Common Causes of FAE4 or F10E4
- A diverter valve motor that has stalled or failed
- Debris jamming the diverter in one position
- A wiring or position-sensing problem at the diverter
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cut power for thirty seconds and restore it, then run a cycle with the racks loaded lightly and see whether both upper and lower spray arms are getting water - that is the sign the diverter controls.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A diverter stuck to one side means half the machine is never being washed, which is easy to miss until a whole rack comes out dirty.
- The diverter sits in the sump under the tub floor, so reaching it means lifting the sump off its gasket, and a pinched gasket leaks underneath.
- Debris that jammed the diverter usually came through a damaged filter, so fitting a new diverter without finding that route leaves the cause in place.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
