What U u Means
JennAir's page for the U u symbol says it appears if the pot is not suitable for induction cooking, is not positioned correctly, or is not of an appropriate size for the cooking zone selected - and that if no pot is detected within thirty seconds of a selection, the zone gives up. It is cookware feedback, not an error.
Common Causes of U u
- Cookware with a base that is not ferromagnetic
- A pan sitting off-center or overhanging the marked zone
- A pan base too small for the cooking area selected
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Try a pan a magnet grips firmly, centered squarely on the marked zone and matched to its diameter; those three checks between them answer everything JennAir lists on this page.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If confirmed induction cookware placed correctly still shows this symbol, the zone's own detection circuit is at issue, and that lives under the glass with high-current wiring.
- Treating a detection problem as a cookware problem for months means cooking round a zone that has actually failed.
- Reaching the detection circuit means lifting the bonded glass, which is the single most damaging thing a well-meaning owner can attempt on an induction cooktop.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
