What F2 E1 Means
On JennAir ranges with electronic cooktop grate sensing, F2 E1 relates to the grates not being detected as properly seated — JennAir's own guidance has owners check the grates before it treats this as a User Interface, keypad, or control wiring fault.
Common Causes of F2 E1
- A cooktop grate not seated flat, level, or fully engaged with its sensing contacts
- A stuck or unresponsive keypad key on the control panel
- A control board or keypad wiring fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the range fully cooled, rock each cooktop grate corner-to-corner and side-to-side to check for wobble; if a grate isn't seated flat and level, try flipping or reseating it and power-cycling the range at the breaker — JennAir's own troubleshooting starts here before treating it as an electronic fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If reseating the grates doesn't clear it, the fault shifts to the keypad or control board, and opening the control housing to check requires isolating the range's power supply first.
- This code can be mistaken for a full control board failure when the real issue is just a misaligned grate, leading to an unnecessary, expensive part swap.
- Prying at a keypad membrane suspected of being stuck can tear it, turning a simple check into a full keypad replacement.
- A control panel reassembled with a connector seated even slightly off can cause other keys to stop responding.
- Cracking open the control panel housing for a look is, on its own, one of the surer ways to affect what's left of the control assembly's warranty coverage — check your terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
