Common Problems

Why Won’t My JennAir Range Burner Ignite?

An endless clicking sound with no flame is frustrating, but the electrode behind it is one of the cheaper, faster fixes in the whole range.

Every burner on a JennAir gas range has its own spark electrode wired back to a central ignition module, so when one burner clicks endlessly without lighting while the others work fine, the fault is almost always isolated to that single electrode rather than anything shared across the range.

What Actually Stops the Spark From Catching

The electrode has to throw a spark within a few millimeters of the gas port for ignition to happen. A crumb of dried food, a skin of grease, or moisture trapped in the gap after a wipe-down is enough to ground out that spark before it ever reaches the gas, even though the module keeps firing at its normal rhythm.

Reseating the Burner Components Matters

Take the grate and burner cap off and set the cap back down, checking that it drops flush into its seat rather than resting slightly cocked. A cap that isn’t seated squarely can shift where gas exits relative to the electrode, producing the exact same symptom as a genuinely fouled electrode.

A Gas Smell Changes the Situation Entirely

Repeated clicking with no ignition is only an inconvenience. Catching a whiff of gas while it happens is not. Turn the control off, leave it off, ventilate the kitchen, and don’t try lighting that burner again until a technician has checked it.
