JennAir Cooktop F4 Error Code

JennAir's F4 cooktop page has a simple explanation: a pot or pan is too close to the control panel. The heat radiating off the cookware reaches the touch area, and the cooktop steps back rather than let the controls cook.

What F4 Means

JennAir's F4 cooktop page has a simple explanation: a pot or pan is too close to the control panel. The heat radiating off the cookware reaches the touch area, and the cooktop steps back rather than let the controls cook.

Common Causes of F4

  • A large pan overhanging the front zone towards the control strip
  • A hot pan or lid set down directly on the control area
  • Cookware bigger than the zone it is being used on

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Move the pan off the cooktop, make sure whatever you cook with next is centered on its zone with nothing hot sitting over the touch panel, and give the controls about five minutes to clear - that five-minute wait is JennAir's own figure.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • There is nothing to repair here, so opening the cooktop in response to F4 risks damage for no reason at all.
  • Repeatedly cooking with pans that overhang the control strip bakes the touch area at temperatures it is not rated for, which eventually turns a nuisance message into a real control failure.
  • A pan that reaches the controls is usually also too big for its zone, which is its own source of uneven cooking and scorched glass.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F4 FAQ

Use it on a rear zone where the control strip is further away, or move to a pan matched to the zone size. Cookware that reaches the controls is working outside what the cooktop expects.

It withdraws the affected controls until the area cools. Once the heat has gone and the panel clears, normal operation comes back on its own.
