What F2 Means
JennAir's F2 page for electric cooktops is about heat rather than hardware: the surface cooking area is too hot, and the message clears by itself once the area has cooled. The page adds that if you switch the zone back on and F2 returns, it is still too hot.
Common Causes of F2
- A zone run at high power for an extended period
- A pan boiled dry, leaving the glass far hotter than the food ever was
- Heat carried across from an adjacent zone or from a hot pan set down on the glass
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take the pans off the affected cooking area, switch that zone off and simply give the glass time to come down - JennAir's own instruction is to wait for the surface to cool rather than to reset anything.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Trying to force the code away by switching the zone back on only confirms it is still hot, and repeated attempts keep the glass at a temperature it was never meant to hold.
- Cooling a hot glass surface deliberately, with a wet cloth for instance, risks thermal shock and a cracked top.
- If F2 appears on a cool cooktop, the problem has moved to the temperature sensing under the glass, and that is not visible from above.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
