What C82 Means
Where C81 and C83 are about the appliance getting too hot, JennAir's C82 page turns to the cookware: it asks whether the correct cookware is being used, whether the pan is the right size, and whether the pan is empty or has boiled dry.
Common Causes of C82
- A pan that has boiled dry or been left empty on a hot zone
- Cookware too small for the cooking area selected
- Cookware unsuited to the cooktop type
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn the zone off and check the pan before anything else - an empty or dried-out pan on an active zone is the single commonest trigger, and a pan far smaller than the zone it is sitting on comes a close second.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An empty pan on a powered zone puts far more heat into the glass than any recipe would, and repeating it is how a nuisance code becomes a cracked surface.
- If the code keeps appearing with proper cookware, the problem has moved to the zone's own temperature sensing, which is under the glass and out of reach.
- Assuming the electronics have failed when cookware was the cause leads to an expensive part being changed for no reason at all.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
