What F8 Means
JennAir's F8 cooktop page explains that the surface cooking area has been in operation too long and the automatic shutoff was activated. It is a safety timer doing exactly what it was designed to do rather than a part failing.
Common Causes of F8
- A zone left on far longer than the automatic shutoff allows
- A long unattended simmer or a slow reduction that outran the timer
- A control left on after cooking finished
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn the affected cooking area off, take the cookware away and let the zone cool before using it again - that sequence is JennAir's own, and the cooktop returns to normal once it has cooled.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This is the protection working, so there is nothing inside the cooktop to correct, and opening it achieves nothing but risk.
- A zone that shuts off on time repeatedly while you are standing at it suggests the timer is triggering early, and that is a control question rather than a cooking one.
- Leaving cookware on a zone that has just shut off keeps heat in the glass and delays the reset, which gets mistaken for a problem.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
