What F5E2 Means
F5E2 means the self-clean door lock won't release once a self-clean cycle has finished - the opposite scenario from a latch that won't engage, and one that leaves the door mechanically locked.
Common Causes of F5E2
- A latch motor or solenoid that hasn't released
- A door lock switch that isn't confirming the unlocked position to the control
- A latch mechanism that's mechanically jammed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Don't force the door. Let the oven fully cool completely if it hasn't already - the lock is a safety feature tied to cavity temperature and often releases on its own once the oven is genuinely cool. If it stays locked well after cooling, that needs a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Forcing a door that's mechanically locked risks damaging the latch assembly or warping the door itself.
- Self-clean puts the metalwork around the latch through temperatures ordinary baking never reaches, and a built-in cavity sheds that heat slowly.
- Whether the mechanism has seized or the motor has stopped driving it is a distinction that only shows with the latch in hand.
- A wall oven door has to come off its hinges to reach that panel, and it is heavy and awkward to hold at chest height without dropping it onto the open frame.
