What F4 Means
F4, alongside the related F3, points to the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) reading as open or shorted - the control isn't getting a valid signal from the sensor it depends on to manage bake and broil temperature.
Common Causes of F4
- A failed or drifting oven temperature sensor (RTD probe)
- A damaged or disconnected sensor wiring harness
- A connector at the sensor or control board that has corroded or worked loose
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the range down at the breaker for a minute and restore power to see if the code clears on its own - if F4 returns immediately once a cycle starts, that points to a genuine sensor or wiring fault rather than a one-off glitch.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Telling a genuinely failed sensor apart from a loose connector requires continuity testing on a de-energized range, not a visual inspection.
- The sensor sits inside the cavity near the rear wall, and disconnecting it without knowing the correct routing can damage the wiring harness further.
- Replacing the sensor when a corroded connector was the actual cause is a common, avoidable expense.
- Reaching the sensor wiring typically means removing a rear panel, which can put remaining warranty coverage at risk if it isn't done by an authorized technician.
