What F2 Means
F2 on the oven side of a JennAir range means the control has detected the cavity running hotter than the temperature it's actually set to - an over-temperature condition, not just a drifting reading.
Common Causes of F2
- A temperature sensor (RTD) reading incorrectly or failed
- A relay board stuck energizing the heating element past the point the control is calling for
- A control board that isn't reading the sensor signal correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the range down at the breaker immediately if F2 appears during a bake or broil cycle, and don't restart a cycle until it's been checked - an oven that's genuinely overheating past its set point is a safety-relevant fault, not one to work around.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Confirming whether the sensor or the relay board is stuck requires testing the range live at the exact point of the fault, which carries real shock and burn risk without the right equipment.
- A relay stuck closed can, in rare cases, keep heating the cavity even with the range powered down at the control - that's a scenario a technician checks for, not something to assume is safe.
- Replacing the temperature sensor first is the common guess, but if a stuck relay is the actual cause, the new sensor won't fix an oven that keeps overheating.
- Reaching the relay board typically means opening the rear control housing, which can put remaining warranty coverage at risk if it isn't done by an authorized technician.
