How to Extend the Life of Your JennAir Wall Oven’s Door Seal

A worn door gasket forces the heating element to work harder and can throw off baking results long before it looks obviously damaged.

The rubber gasket that runs around your wall oven’s door frame doesn’t get much attention until it visibly cracks, but a seal that’s lost its grip lets heat escape steadily during every bake, forcing the element to run longer and unevenly to compensate.

Wipe It Down Regularly

Food splatter and grease that bake onto the gasket during cooking make the rubber stiffer and less able to flex back into a tight seal. A damp wipe-down after spills keeps the material supple for longer.

Test the Seal With a Dollar Bill

Shut the door on a bill so it crosses the gasket at one corner, then tug it out while feeling for resistance. Work your way around all four sides of the frame — a spot where it pulls free with almost no drag is where the rubber has gone flat.

Be Careful During Self-Clean Cycles

The extreme heat of a self-clean cycle is harder on the gasket than normal baking. Wipe away loose ash after the cycle finishes rather than scrubbing the gasket itself, which can weaken the material further.

When to Replace It

A visibly flattened, cracked, or torn gasket won’t recover with cleaning and should be replaced before it drives up your energy use further. Visit our JennAir wall oven repair page to book a visit.
