What F1 Means
JennAir's own support documentation describes F1 as a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the electronic control, or the wiring connecting them — the range's control board isn't getting a valid temperature reading it can trust to manage the bake or broil cycle.
Common Causes of F1
- Failed or drifting oven temperature sensor (RTD probe)
- Damaged or disconnected sensor wiring harness
- A control board that can no longer read the sensor signal correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the range down at the breaker for a full minute, then restore power and watch the display for about a minute before running a cycle — JennAir's own guidance lists this reset as the first step, and if F1 doesn't reappear immediately it may have been a one-off glitch.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Confirming which of the three (sensor, wiring, or board) has actually failed requires multimeter testing on a fully de-energized range, not a visual check.
- The temperature sensor sits inside the cavity near the broil element, and removing it carelessly can damage the surrounding cavity insulation.
- This fault is easy to confuse with a bad heating element, and replacing the wrong part first is a common, expensive mistake.
- A sensor reinstalled even slightly out of its original position can keep reading inaccurately even after being replaced with a new part.
- Getting to the sensor or its wiring usually means pulling a rear panel near the range's power supply — exactly the kind of teardown that can can affect the remaining warranty coverage — check your terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
