What F5 E3 Means
F5 E3 is JennAir's lower-cavity latch code on double wall ovens: the page names the Lower Oven Door Latch Assembly, the door switch, or the associated wiring. The upper cavity has its own codes, so this one narrows the job to one door out of two.
Common Causes of F5 E3
- A lower oven latch motor that no longer completes its travel
- A lower door switch that has failed or fallen out of alignment
- Damaged wiring in the lower cavity latch loom
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Leave the lower door alone until the cavity is genuinely cool, particularly after a self-clean cycle, then reset at the breaker for a minute and see whether the latch releases on its own.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A double wall oven weighs enough that pulling it from the cabinet is a two-person job, and the lower door has to come off before the latch is reachable at all.
- The two cavities share one harness route, so working blind near the lower latch plug risks unseating the upper cavity's connections at the same time.
- Levering a jammed latch bends the strike, and on a lower cavity that damage is harder to spot because the door is below eye level.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
