What F1E1 Means
For F1E1 on electric cooktops JennAir's page states there has been a loss of communication between the user interface, or keypad, and the appliance manager. Two boards that should be in constant conversation have stopped hearing each other.
Common Causes of F1E1
- A data harness between the keypad and the appliance manager that has come adrift
- A failure on either of the two boards
- Corrosion at a connector under the cooktop from an old spill
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Reset the cooktop at the breaker for a minute - a communication link dropped by a supply disturbance often comes back on its own, and one dropped by a damaged harness will not.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Because the page names both boards and the link between them, the code cannot say which end failed, and guessing means buying one of two expensive parts on a coin toss.
- Reaching either board means lifting a bonded glass top, and the edge of that glass is where it chips.
- Spill corrosion under a cooktop tends to be found only when the unit is opened, and a board fitted without cleaning that up fails again the same way.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
