What E2 Means
JennAir's own documentation describes E2 as the control panel switching off because of excessively high temperatures at a cooking zone, most often from an empty pan left on a hot zone, though a genuine electronics fault can produce the same code without an obvious cookware cause.
Common Causes of E2
- Cookware left empty, or boiled dry, on an active zone
- Genuine overheating of the zone's internal electronics
- A failed zone temperature sensor producing a false overheat reading
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn off the affected zone, let it cool, and remove any empty or boiled-dry cookware — JennAir specifically calls out an empty pan as a common trigger, and this alone clears a meaningful share of E2 cases.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If E2 recurs despite appropriate cookware, testing the zone sensor means opening the cooktop housing and working near high-current induction coil wiring, which is line-voltage work.
- Assuming a cookware issue when the real fault is a failed sensor leaves a zone that isn't actually protecting itself from a genuine overheat condition.
- The zone sensor sits close to the induction coil under the glass, and bumping the wrong connector while checking it can create a second, unrelated fault.
- Getting inside the housing to reach that sensor is, more often than not, enough on its own to affect the cooktop's remaining warranty coverage — check your terms first.
